BindersOUT is a grassroots program formed in 2016 to give trans and nonbinary folks access to affordable chestbinding and compression undergarments (also known as binders). The program is currently run by Taylor Thompson & Jay Jonah, with the support of TKVO staff.
The BindersOUT Program dropbox has currently taken root in our little queer gift shop, located in the heart of Dundas West in Toronto, Ontario.
Are your binders new?
All our binders are donated by wonderful folks who have lightly used these garments and have felt ready to part with them. Prior to re-homing they are fully laundered.
How much do your binders cost?
All our binders are pay-what-you-can, no questions asked. We encourage folks to self assess their level of ability to donate. If you are not in a financially feasible place to donate, we are totally okay with that. If you are able to donate that is great too!
Where does the money I donate go?
Your donation goes right back into the program! Every little bit helps in terms of sourcing, purchasing and cleaning binders.
Can I choose a specific brand of binder?
As this is solely a donation-based program we can’t guarantee that certain brands will be available. And since they have been worn by another individual beforehand they typically don't have a tag stating the size or brand. It's always best to visit us in person and try them on before taking them home.
Will you have my size?
Although the team at BindersOUT works very hard to provide a vast range of both sizes and styles, the size you need may not be amongst the donated binders. If you are worried we may not have your size in stock (or you are traveling far to get to the shop) feel free to call or email us before venturing out so we can check the current stock for you.
If we don't have your size in the shop at that time we are happy to put you on a list to be notified of when we receive your size.
How do I donate my used binder?
We're so happy you asked! Simply visit our shop at 1450 Dundas Street West and drop your garment off in the (super cute) BindersOUT donation bin. We will inspect the donated binders and clean them before they are made available, but it's always recommended to drop off a clean binder.
I don't have a binder, but I want to donate!
Amazing! If you feel like you are in a place to provide a monetary donation please reach out. Any quantity helps!
I have one more question...
Fire away! If you have any additional questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact us and we will do our best to provide the information you need.
